How To Make A Custom Windows XPCD

1. Get the required items:
- Windows XP CD with SP2
- Drivers you may want to integrate (extract them)
2. Download the tools:
- nLite 1.3.5
- Windows Media Player 11 Slipstreamer
- Universal Silent Switch Finder (you need to register on forum to download)
- Microsoft Virtual PC 2007
3. Download the update files:
- RyanVM’s Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack
- DirectX 9.0c August 2007 AddOn 0.3.1 - CNC
- Internet EXPlorer 7 English w/Updates
- Media Player 11 Installer
- Media Player 11 KB928788
- Media Player 11 KB929399
- Media Player 11 KB929773
- Media Player 11 KB932390
- Media Player 11 KB933547
- Media Player 11 KB935551
- Media Player 11 KB935552
- Media Player 11 KB936782
- Media Player 11 KB939209
4. Install the tools:
- Install nLite in any folder of your choice
- Install Windows Media Player 11 Slipstreamer to the nLite folder
- Install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to any folder of choice
- Install Universal Silent Switch Finder
5. Integrate the updates:
- Insert XP SP2 CD
- Open nLite
- Press Next button
- Click Browse… button and browse to your CD drive
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Browse to your prefered destination for the project (this is where it stores the files it works with)
If the folder does not exist press the Make New Folder button and name it whatever you want - Let the file copy finish
- Click Next button
- Click Next button
- Select Hotfixes,Addons and Update Packs button and press Next button
- Click Insert button and insert all updates
- Click the Next button
- Click Yes Button
- Wait for the process to finish (This is gonna take a while)
- Click Next and click Finish
6. Customize the disc:
- Re-open nLite
- Click Next button
- Click Next button
- Click Next button
- Select Last Session and click Load and wait for it to say Loaded: Last Session
- Click Next button
- Deactivate Hotfixes,Addons and Update Packs by clicking on it
- Activate Drivers, Components, Unattendeded, Options, Tweaks, Bootable ISO by clicking on them
- Click Next button
- Insert any drivers you want to intigrate and click Next
- Click OK button
- Remove any components you dont want on your disc and click Next
(be carefull as removing the wrong things could render the insalled Xp as broken) - Configure the Unattended settings as per how you want them and click Next Use Universal Silent Switch Finder to find silent install switches for RunOnce tab
(Its pretty easy.. click the help button if you are not sure) - Configure the Options here as per how you want it and click Next
(be carefull here as well with these settings as well) - Configure the Tweaks and click Next
(Go through th available tweaks and only apply what is pratical… some tweaks could have negative side effects) - Click Yes
- Click Next
- Enter disc name in the Label field and click Make ISO button
- Browse to where you want to save the iso file and name it and press Save
- Test in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to see if your created ISO works
(its easy to use) - If it didn’t work retry from the start
- If it works burn it to CD/DVD
You can also add your favorite open-source/free programs & utilities by going to http://www.winaddons.com/nlite-addons . All of the programs on this page are in CAB format and can be added during the Hotfixes,Addons and Update Packs step. Not only do you not need to use RunOnce to install these programs…they will install silently for you.
You can also use with AutoIt scripts to create your own silent installation for any program you will not find at the nlite-addons page.
